Piedmont

piedmont wines
The region of Piedmont in Northwest Italyproduces some of the finest wines in the world.

Like Burgundy, its wines come from a multitude of small holdings. Its most famous wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, are red and many carry the designate of single vineyard or cru.

Other well-known reds are Barbera, which is an everyday house wine and Dolcetto, a lighter-styled wine. Several white wines have gained some importance, but not equal to the red wines: Gavi, Arneis, Asti Spumante and, most recently, Chardonnay.
