Chiaretto Classico

The name chiaretto is a dimunitive of the Italian chiaro, or "clear," a reference to the wine's rose color (it is akin to the English claret, a term that came into use centuries ago when all wine was white or 'rose').
This rosato is made from grapes grown in estate-owned vineyards in the Bardolino area near Lake Garda.
Some of the vines are more than 30 years old.
Vinification: The wine is obtained from white wine fermentation of the must of red Bardolino grapes. The must remains in contact with the solid parts for only a few hours, just long enough to take on the desired hue.
The maceration usually lasts for about 12 hours but may vary according to the temperature, the health of the grapes and the harvesting conditions.
Taste: Fresh, prickly and bright. Loads of cherries and pistachio in the nose with a light nutty flavor. Very juicy with nicely balanced alcohol and acidity with an excellent tart finish.
This wine possesses the crisp, fresh appeal of a white wine while offering a delicious dash of the deep red wine fruit favors.
Served in tulip-shaped glasses, this wine will surprise the connoisseur, and will suggest combinations with light, not too elaborate courses, appetizers, side dishes, freshwater fish, and white meats. It is the perfect wine for a summer outing or an "al fresco" picnic by the Lake.
It may also be taken as an aperitif.
